SALZBURG SPORTS WORLD

Another village in the famous  “Salzburg Sport World”, St. Johann is less than 40 miles from the Salzburg Airport on the Autobahn. The valley location of the village makes it an ideal starting point to ski trips to the surrounding peaks. With runs up to 5 km long, St. Johann has become a favorite destination for many skiers. Refer also to the previous resort Altenmarkt-Zauchensee.

Elevation: Base/Village of St. Johann is 650 m (2,080 ft) Top of the immediateski area is 1,200 m (3,936 ft). Village of Alpendorf is at 850 m (2,788 ft), Top of the immediate ski area is, 1,755 m (5,756 ft)

Vertical: St. Johann 550 m (1,800 ft. Alpendorf (950 m (2,968 ft)

Terrain: Modest number of possibilities directly above St. Johann, but much more terrain, groomed and off-piste, above Alpendorf and reaching to top of Hirschkogel peak

Longest Run: 5.0 km (3.1 mi)

Skiing Circus: Possible to ski across three valleys, from Flachau to Wagrain to Alpendorf, a circus that includes 110 miles of prepared slopes

Lifts: This circus has 65 lifts; the whole region has 270 (see www.skiamade.com)

Types: 10 gondolas; 33 chairlifts, 62 surface lifts

Lift Capacity: 135,000 p/h resort in Sport World; 19,000 p/h St. Johann

Ski Season: December-April

Summer Skiing: Kitzsteinhorn Glacier, 50 km (31 mi)

Cross Country: 12 km (7 mi) local; 220 km (136 mi) in region

Best Deal: Packages before Christmas holidays and in late March This resort is part of Ski amadé (www.skiamade.com), which also includes Schladming, Dachstein Tauern, Salzburger Sportwelt, Grossartal, Hochkönig Winterreich, and Gastein—25 villages on a common pass for 270 lifts and 860 km (533 mi) of slopes.
