Hlídarfjall in northern Iceland is located in Akureyri, the largest town outside Reykjavik. The mountain has beginner to upper intermediate terrain and lighted for night skiing. There are several hotels in town.

Elevation: Base/hotel: 500 m (1,640 ft); Top: 1,000 m (3,280 ft)

Terrain: Snowfields, with no trees, easy to advanced, off-slope skiing possible; groomed runs; Open nights; 50 hectares of snowmaking

Mountain Restaurants: Self service cafeteria at Skidastadir Ski Lodge

Shopping/Services: Ski lodge has sitting room with TV for guests and rentals. At 700 m Stryta cabin has refreshments; all other services in town

Lodging: Several hotels in Akureyri, offering bed and breakfast

Transportation: Gateway Airport: Reykjavik; also direct flights from Copegnhagen, Denmark, to Akureyri. Bus from city to ski area three times daily

Bus from city 3 times daily

By Ski Bus from airport: Icelandair and the Nordurleio Bus Company operate daily services to Akureyri all year round
